Some Easter Eggs For You
Here's another selection of sweets for your ears:
The Lemon Twigs - In My Head
The D'Addario brothers have another great album coming very soon, and they appear to have leaned into the sixties more than ever. This track would make Brian Wilson proud.
You can pre-order their new album "Everything Harmony", which will be released May 6th, here
Mammoth WVH - Another Celebration At The End of the World
Wolfgang Van Halen provides an answer to all those people who claim the end is nigh. Somehow, we always seem to survive.
The second album from the one man band comes out August 6th and can be pre-ordered here.
Genesis - BBC Broadcasts
Seeing Genesis live, even when Phil Collins is so infirmed he has to perform in a chair, was always a special experience (IYKYK). I was never fortunate enough to see them when Peter Gabriel fronted the band (too young), but there is a full disc of that material here, plus four more covering the full history of the group, including two tracks with Ray Wilson as the lead singer.
You can purchase the 5 CD set here.
Daisy Jones and the Six - Aurora
You may have seen the Series on Amazon Prime about the fictional band. Did you know that the actors actually learned and performed the songs you see in the show, as well as performed on the album (with a LOT of help from the primary songwriter, Blake Mills). If you like bands like Fleetwood Mac and Eagles, who seemed to need all that tension to make beautiful music, you'll probably like this, too. Here's my favorite song from the album/show.
You can buy the album, "Aurora", here.
M83 - Laura
M83 is a band that seems to be stuck in the 80's with a slightly Yacht Rock vibe. I say that like it is a bad thing, but it is not. I particularly like that almost every song seems to end with a sax solo. After about ten years, they are finally back with some new stuff.
You can get their new album, "Fantasy", here.
Boygenius - Not Strong Enough
Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker formed their indie-rock supergroup five years ago, but the debut album finally came to light this year. Their voices blend beautifully throughout, but especially on the lead single.
The album, titled "therecord", can be purchased here.
The New Pornographers - Pontius Pilate's Home Movies
Here's a track appropriate for today from a psuedo-supergroup featuring Neko Case and AC Newmar, among others.
Their new album, "Continue As A Guest", can be purchased here.
The Zombies - Different Game
Paying homage to themselves, I suppose, Rod Argent and company release a song that sounds awfully like "A Whiter Shade of Pale". But if you are making music for 55 years, can you fault them? I can't!
The album, also titled "Different Game", is available here.
Depeche Mode - Ghost Again
Reduced to a two-piece after the death of Andy Fletcher last year, the remaining members honor him by putting out one of their most moving and melodic songs in their entire catalogue. Check it out.
The new album, "Memento Mori", can be found here.
The Beths - Watching The Credits
Elizabeth Stokes and her band from New Zealand, continue making PowerPop sweet as the jelly beans in your basket, even when the gatekeepers say the genre died in the mid-80's. Enjoy, then go brush your teeth!
There is no new release in 2023 as of yet, but you can check out their last album, appropriately named "Expert In A Dying Field", here.
That's it for this time. I'll post again on Record Store Day, coming in a few weeks, to let you know what vinyl treasures I was able to find!
